All God’s Kids has not been published, and Joe has not given interviews about it. No publications, podcasts or appearances are listed here because none have happened, and none will be invented to make the page look busier.
Joe is available for interview, and is a straightforward subject: thirty years in the police, a Catholic upbringing, and a novel about consent, fatherhood and the courts.

Short biography — 25 words
Joe Hartwell is a former police officer and novelist living in Northamptonshire. All God’s Kids is his third novel.
Long biography — 90 words
Joe Hartwell is a former police officer who draws on that career to write the police procedure and courtroom drama in his fiction. He has been present at several births, and the medical detail in his work is factual. A strict Catholic upbringing gives his novels their religious edge. He names Frank Richards, Dennis Wheatley, James Herbert, Graham Masterton and Tom Sharpe among his influences. He divorced in 1995 and has two daughters, and now lives in Northamptonshire with his second wife and son. All God’s Kids follows Hunted Down and The Sacred Claim.
Synopsis — one paragraph
Approaching their forties, career-minded couple Bridget and Tom Rawnsley are trying for a baby and it is not happening. Then Bridget is attacked. She reports it, is unimpressed by the way the case is handled, and reluctantly withdraws the charges, only to discover afterwards that she is pregnant. Her life, already upside down, becomes entwined with two other couples and with a nurse who awakens feelings dormant since her teens. Together they navigate a year of social and sexual dilemmas. Each couple has an occasion coming. None of them can be sure it will be a happy one.

Angles Joe can speak to
Subjects genuinely inside his experience, rather than a wish list.
What reporting actually feels like
The gap between a process working correctly and a complainant feeling believed , written from inside the job rather than about it.
Writing after a police career
What thirty years of statements does to the way a person builds a scene, and what has to be unlearned before fiction will work.
Fatherhood and certainty
Paternity testing, birth certificates, and the men in the novel who each answer the question differently.
A Catholic conscience in fiction
Confession as a working mechanism rather than a symbol, and the white lie the novel finishes on.
